Winona Smith, age 88, of Washington, died Friday, March 19th at the Washington County Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, March 23rd at the Jones Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will begin noon Monday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:00 Monday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for New Horizons Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Winona was born December 14, 1921 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bower. She attended school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School. On October 4, 1941, Winona was united in marriage to Gregory J. Smith in Kahoka, Missouri.

Winona was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the family farming operation. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and doing crossword puzzles. Winona took great pleasure in caring for her family.

She is survived by her son Paul Smith and wife Wilma of Buffalo, Missouri and extended family and friends.

Winona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1985, one daughter Dixie Ahlbrecht, one brother LeRoy "Junior" Bower and one sister Ilean Crawford.
