Harry Rader, age 91, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Sunny Brook Living Care Center in Fairfield, Iowa.
Private family services will be held on Sunday, July 25th at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. A public celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at the McIntire Cemetery in Ottumwa, Iowa. William Harry Rader was born December 15, 1929, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of William Ray and Martha Helen (Lasley) Rader. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1947. Harry was united in marriage to Margaret Arter on June 24, 1950 in Ottumwa.
Harry and Margaret moved to Washington in 1953, and returned to Ottumwa in 1973. They later moved back to Washington in 1989. Harry farmed most of his life southwest of Washington and worked at Thermogas until his retirement in 1987.
Harry was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge belonging to Washington Lodge #26, Adoniram Lodge, Brighton Lodge #613 and Ottumwa Lodge # 16. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Wayland Chapter 494 of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) and Brighton Chapter 486 OES. Harry was a member of the Amateur HAM Radio Club and the Wayland Antique Tractor Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Payne and husband Russell of Washington, Iowa; son Michael Rader and wife Leslie of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Janice Rader Pringle and husband Randy of Fairfield, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and his special furry companion, Marcie Mae.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha Rader, and his wife Margaret.
