William A. "Bill" Potratz, age 93, of Washington, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at the University Of Iowa Hospital following a brief illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Herb Yoder officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Bill was born September 28, 1921 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Samuel Arthur and Mary Agnes (Southerland) Potratz. He was united in marriage to Clara L. Wenger on March 2, 1946 in Wayland, Iowa.

Bill was a life resident of Washington County having farmed for over fifty years. He graduated for Wayland High School. Bill later worked maintenance at Pamida and owned and operated Clara's Greenhouse south of Washington with his wife. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he was a youth leader for several years as well as a session member and Trustee. He also worked for the ASCS office in Washington. Bill served honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII, fighting in Okinawa.

He is survived by his son, Arthur Potratz and wife Ada of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son Roger Potratz of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren: Craig Potratz and wife Michelle of Keokuk, Iowa; Amy Hummel and husband Justin of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Joshua Potratz of Washington, Iowa; and Daniel Potratz of Arlington, Virginia; three great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Anthony and William Potratz of Keokuk, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lucy Wenger of Wayland, Iowa; and one nephew, Willis Kovar and wife Ginny of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

William was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in May 2014.
