Willard D. "Ike" Love, age 83, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Washington County Hospital following a brief illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will begin noon Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Masonic Lodge services conducted by Masonic Lodge 26 will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Eicher Cemetery in rural Wayland, Iowa. Willard D. Love was born November 1, 1929 in Washington, Iowa the son of James Granville and Sarah "Sadie" (Davis) Love. Following the death of Sadie, Willard was raised by his father and step mother, Lois (Harper) Love. He graduated from Wyman High School in 1947 and attended Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Joann Schantz on September 21, 1950, at the Eicher Church in rural Wayland.
Ike farmed in the Wyman area until 1959 when he began working for Ozark Airlines. He worked as a Senior Station Agent for Ozark Airlines in Clinton, Dubuque and Cedar Rapids, Iowa retiring in 1986. Ike and Joann moved to Washington in 1986. Following his retirement, Ike was a driver for the Washington County Mini Bus for eight years and later worked for Gretter Motors where he shuttled cars, trucks and parts throughout the Midwest.
He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeye Fan. Ike enjoyed reading, keeping up on current events, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Love of Washington, Iowa; son, David Love of Galesburg, Illinois; son, Larry Love and wife Nancy of Crawfordsville, Iowa; daughter, Sharon Ryder and husband Jeff of Bettendorf, Iowa; daughter, Renee Cue and husband Don of West Des Moines, Iowa; son, Loren Love of Johnston, Iowa; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Leland Love and wife Pat of Reno, Nevada; his twin sister, Wilma Vosburg of Grinnell, Iowa; sister-in-law, Ruth Johnston of Ainsworth, Iowa; brother-in-law, Leonard Schantz and wife Dwanna of West Burlington, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Lois Love; brother-in-law, Keith Vosburg; brother-in-law, Dale Johnston; and sister-in-law, Jacque Schantz.
