Willa M. "Billie" White, age 96, of Washington, passed away Sunday evening, January 16, 2011 at Halcyon House after a short period of declining health.
Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Halcyon House Chapel with services conducted by Rev. Kitch Shatzer. Calling hours will be held at the Jones Eden Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday. Private family interment will be held prior to services. Billie was born December 10, 1914 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Ben and Coralie (Tedford) Briley. She graduated from Washington High School in 1932 and attended business school in Fort Madison. On September 21, 1940, she married Richard C. Young, who preceded her in death in November 1949. In 1966, she married Kenneth H. White, who passed away in September of 2005.
Billie was for many years Deputy Clerk of Court and later Deputy Recorder in Washington; a member of Fortnightly, and a member of Chapter Y T.T.T. for over sixty years. She will be remembered as an avid bridge player, golfer and for her beautiful penmanship.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy (James) Lloyd of Washington, Iowa; and Julie Knopf of Howard Beach, New York; three granddaughters, Lisa (Willy) Krotz of Iowa City, Iowa; Jennifer (Steve) Hanssen of Cave Creek, Arizona; and Kimberly Knopf-Drake of New York City, New York; one grandson Richard Knopf of New York City, New York; four step grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, sister Mary Briley, brother Harold Briley, son-in-law Fred Knopf, nephew Robert Briley and two step-daughters.
