Obituary

Wilfred Lloyd McCreedy, age 81, of Washington, formerly of Ainsworth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the Halcyon House in Washington.

A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Calling hours will begin 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 Sunday afternoon. Interment with military honors will take place at Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth. Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church or the Swine Department of the Washington County Fair. Wilfred Lloyd McCreedy was born March 25, 1934, in Ainsworth, Iowa, the son of Milford Lloyd and Beatrice Elmira (Klopfenstein) McCreedy. He graduated from Washington High School in 1952, and from Iowa State University in 1956. Wilfred served honorably in the United States Army from 1956-1958. He was united in marriage to Karen H. Altman on October 12, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Humboldt, Iowa.

Wilfred was a pork producer and farmer. He was proud to have farmed the McCreedy Family Farm that has been in the family since 1868. Wilfred was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington and a lifetime member of the Iowa State University Alumni Association. He was also a member of and past President of the Washington County Pork Producer, Washington County Farm Bureau and Washington County Extension Council. Wilfred served on the Farm Bureau Legislative Committee, Farm Bureau Policy Development Committee and the Southeast Iowa Agriculture Research Association. He also served on the Board of Directors and was past President of the Ainsworth Farmers' Cooperative and served on the Board of Directors and was vice president of the Farmers' Cooperative in Keota. In 1971, Wilfred was named a Master Pork Producer of Iowa and in 1972 received the Pork All American designation by the National Pork Producers Council.

He is survived by his wife, Karen McCreedy of Washington, Iowa; son, Gary McCreedy of Ainsworth, Iowa; son, Dale McCreedy of Anamosa, Iowa; daughter, Jill Hubbard and husband Tony of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Nancy McCreedy of Washington, Iowa; and two grandsons, Colton and Garrett Covington of Washington, Iowa.

Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy Megchelsen.
