Obituary

Wayne A. Witthoft, age 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at Halcyon House after a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Dan Hayton. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Wayne Allen Witthoft was born July 22, 1923 in Washington County, the son of Henry John William and Frieda (Schultz) Witthoft. He attended school in Washington. After graduating from high school, Wayne enlisted in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Givans on July 3, 1949 at the Evangelical and Reform Church in Washington.

Wayne was a lifelong resident of Washington, farming northwest of town for most of his life. He also sold seed corn and worked for the ASCS office and United Suppliers. Wayne was employed by Denny Witthoft Ag Supply until his retirement.

Wayne was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), and was a 4-H Leader for many years. He enjoyed playing on the local fast-pitch softball league, and sponsored a local fast-pitch team for many years. He loved hunting and fishing, and enjoyed farming.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn Witthoft of Washington; son Ted Witthoft and wife Chris of Des Moines; son Tom Witthoft and wife Ann of Clive; son Allen Witthoft and wife Tammy of Epworth; two granddaughters: Rachel Witthoft of Madison, Wisconsin and Abby Witthoft of Sidney, Iowa; two grandsons: Tyler and Colten Witthoft of Epworth; one step-grandson Corey Apprill and wife Kim of Merrill, Wisconsin; brother Arthur Witthoft and wife Martha of Washington; brother Ralph Witthoft and wife Martha of Washington; and sister Louise Armstrong of Bellevue, Nebraska; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Wilbur and Ernest Witthoft, sister Frances Miller, and two grandchildren: Kaleb and Heidi Witthoft.
