Warren L. Otterberg, age 73, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at the M.L. McCreedy Home following a decline in health.
Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Military honors will be accorded at the conclusion of the memorial service on Friday. Warren was born July 6, 1943, in Lemmon, South Dakota the son of Ellis and Pertell (Smith) Otterberg. He attended school in Lemmon and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1962. He served honorably in the United States Navy from 1962 until 1966. Warren was united in marriage to Kathy Lensegrav on August 18, 1967, in Lemmon, South Dakota.
Warren has been a resident of Washington, Iowa, since March of 1969. He worked a short time at Hanson Concrete in Washington, Iowa, before beginning his 37 year career at Crane Valves where he worked various jobs before working as a pattern maker.
He was a Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and a member of the V.F.W. Warren enjoyed the outdoors – working in his yard and hunting. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family. He was best known for his contagious smile.
Warren is survived by his wife, Kathy Otterberg of Washington, Iowa; son, Darin Otterberg and wife Roman of Walford, Iowa; daughter, Kelley Thomas and husband Dave of Washington, Iowa; grandson, Carson Thomas; step grandchildren, Ryan Thornsberry, Courtney Schutzman and Joseph Hamlett; step great granddaughter, Miley Schutzman; step great grandson, Aiden Schutzman; brother, Virgil and Bonnie Otterberg of Lemmon, South Dakota; and sister Vickie Hoff and husband Nick of Dickinson, North Dakota. He is also survived by an "adopted" daughter, Angie Goodwin and her family of Richmond, Iowa; and God Daughter Lyndi Schultz.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
