Virginia Jane Crone, age 91, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas.

Virginia was born in the family farmhouse in rural Washington, Iowa on March 7, 1925, the daughter of Donald and Zelpha (Brook) McLaughlin. Virginia rode her Shetland pony to country school and sang solos in her United Presbyterian Church. She attended Monmouth College in Monmouth, IL where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta and sang lead soprano in college productions. She was also a vivid writer.
After her mother's sudden death, Virginia returned to Washington, IA to care for her family and farm. She was united in marriage to Robert G. Crone and moved to West Des Moines, IA. Virginia attended Drake University and graduated with a Master's Degree as a Specialist in Elementary Guidance Counseling. She taught at Waukee, Booth and Clive Elementary until her retirement to Sun City, AZ.
Virginia spent her summers in Logan, UT and was active in the Logan Opera House for 21 years. She traveled the world and especially loved Spain. After 25 years, she moved back to the Midwest to be closer to her family.
She is survived by her children: Robert "Dan" Crone and wife Diane of Adel, IA; Cynthia Koepsel and husband Ron of Wichita, KS; and Steven Crone and wife Teri of Nashville, TN; sister, Mary Farrell of Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law, Dorla McLaughlin of Temple, TX; grandchildren: Dr. David Koepsel of Wichita, KS; Ashley Shaw and husband Phil of Kansas City, KS; Jaquelin Koepsel Schmidt and husband Wyatt of Omaha, NE; Jessica Zachary and Ryan Crone, both of Nashville, TN; and four cherished nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Robert McLaughlin, and grandson, Rhinald Koepsel.
