Obituary

Virginia K. Booth, age 94, of Washington, Iowa died Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the United Presbyterian Home.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home until the time of service. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Virginia was born October 31, 1919 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Rodney D. and Frances Mildred (Griffith) Kephart. She graduated from Washington High School and attended Washington Junior College. Virginia was united in marriage to Dale Eugene Booth on October 30, 1938 in Nevada, Iowa.

Virginia was a lifetime resident of the Washington community. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and was active with the United Methodist Women. With her husband and sons, she established and operated the Ambulance Service in Washington and the Blue Note Café. She retired from the Washington County Hospital as a Medicare Clerk in 1982, and later worked as an aide at Halcyon House.

She was a member of the YWCA, now the Y Women, and served as the President of the Board. She was a fifty-one year member of the American Red Cross, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1945. She was a member of the Fortnightly groups in Creative Writing and Family Living since 1943. She was active in the Genealogy Society and was a Hospice Volunteer. She was also a Gray Lady Nursing Assistant. As a teen, she was active in the Order of the Rainbow for Girls.

Virginia was a history lover who had an extensive collection of calendars, stamps, coins, and Washington County items. She loved scrapbooking and kept historical records for all of the groups she involved in. Virginia was instrumental in campaigning for the erection of the concrete shelter at Sunset Park.

Virginia is survived by her sons Stephen of Davenport, Iowa; Douglas of Reeds Spring, Missouri; and Bradley and wife Deb of West Chester, Iowa; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale in 1991, son Roger in 2010, granddaughter Kristi Neil, and sister Donna Belle Rodgers.
