Victor W. Thompson, age 86, of Washington, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 am Thursday morning. Military Honors will be conducted following the service. A memorial has been established for the Washington County Historical Society to be used for the Red Brick School House. Victor was born October 28, 1930 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Glen and Vaughn (Darbyshire) Thompson. He graduated from Washington High School. Victor served honorably for the United States Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Margery Lee Haffner in Washington, Iowa, in January of 1950.
Victor was a farm hand in Washington County for many years. He was a member of Electrical Workers Local 405 for fifty plus years. During his job as an electrician, Victor traveled to the Southern states where he retired in Lexington, South Carolina, in 1992. He moved back to Iowa in 2009.
In his earlier years, Victor loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Washington County Historical Society. Victor grew up raising ponies and turkeys. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, a trade he learned from his father. He was an avid gardener and woodworker. He enjoyed reading, writing, traveling and dancing.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Ball and husband Larry of Hickory, NC; daughter, Kerri Sexton and husband Larry of Columbus Junction, IA; daughter, Glenda Cook and husband Mark of Nichols, IA; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Duane Thompson of Sun City West, AZ; brother, Bob Thompson of Madison, ME; sister, Judy Baarnal and husband Barney of Plymouth, MN; and his angel on earth, Marlene Blick
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant son, one grandson and one sister.
