Verna Fay Jarvis, age 92, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, June 25, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.
A private memorial service will be held at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with services conducted by Rev. Fred and Eva Bickhart. Inurnment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Verna was born October 27, 1919 in Fairfield, Iowa the daughter of Hubert and Elsie May (Stewart) Fry. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1937. On November 3, 1937, she was united in marriage to Harold Wesley Jarvis in Fairfield, Iowa.
Verna was a homemaker and was a caregiver to her family. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Washington, American Legion Auxiliary, Republican Women, and was a past member of Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed traveling to and spending time in Canada and Florida. Verna enjoyed fishing, bowling and dancing.
She is survived by four children including son, Oren W. Jarvis and wife Mary; daughter, Beverly D. Krotz and husband Duane; son, Yale H. Jarvis and wife Connie; daughter, Marianne K. Hanshaw and husband Jim, all of Washington; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold in 2001, one brother, Ivan Fry in 1919, and one grandson, Daniel Krotz in 1981.
