Thomas David "Tom" Vilmont, age 70, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Celebration of life services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Jones Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Bonham officiating. Visitation will begin 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton, Iowa. Tom was born November 4, 1940 in DeWitt, Iowa the son of Floyd Simon and Catherine Lois (Angelese) Vilmont. He attended St. Irneus Catholic School and graduated from Clinton High School in 1960. Tom was united in marriage to Karen Wallace Rotenburger on August 4, 1979 in Clinton, Iowa.

Tom was employed at J.I. Case Company in Bettendorf, Iowa where he was a welder and later worked maintenance. He lived most of his life in Clinton, Iowa; lived two years in Bettendorf, Iowa and has resided in Washington, Iowa for the past sixteen years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clinton and was presently a member of the Church of Christ in Washington. He enjoyed fishing, doing crafts and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife Karen Vilmont of Washington, Iowa; step daughter Becky Wiley and husband Jeff of Parkview, Iowa; step daughter Carrie Sexton of Clinton, Iowa; granddaughter Courtney Sullivan and husband Jason of Port Byron, Illinois; granddaughter Shaylen Striley and husband Todd of Parkview, Iowa; granddaughter Melissa Wiley of Clinton, Iowa; great granddaughter Chloe Sullivan of Port Byron, Illinois; great grandson Finley Sullivan of Port Byron, Illinois; great granddaughter Faith Striley of Parkview, Iowa. Tom is also survived by his mother Catherine Lois Vilmont of Clinton, Iowa; sister Sandra Arkenberg and husband Hank of Clinton, Iowa; brother Charles Vilmont and wife Sue of Clinton, Iowa; brother Vernon Vilmont and wife Sandra of Clinton, Iowa as well as 14 nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and infant sister – Suzanne Theresa Vilmont and one brother Joseph Vilmont.
