Thelma M. Fox, age 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, September 3, 2012 at the Washington County Hospital following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Visitation will begin 12:00 noon Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Riverside, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society. Thelma was born July 20, 1924 in Riverside, Iowa the daughter of Hubert S. and Nora (Cambridge) Kron. She attended school in Riverside, and graduated from Riverside High School. She was united in marriage to Donald W. Fox on September 19, 1945 in Riverside, Iowa.
Thelma helped her children detassel corn while they were in school. She worked at the American Pearl Button Factory, Advance Ross Manufacturing and was later employed at Pamida until her retirement.
While in high school, Thelma enjoyed playing basketball and was proud to be part of the Riverside Girls Basketball team that went to State. She enjoyed flowers and watching birds and wildlife. She loved being outside and taking care of her yard. She enjoyed listening to Polka music and playing the accordion. Thelma always looked forward to family gatherings where she enjoyed cooking and was known for her decorated sugar cookies.
Thelma is survived by four children; son, Duane Fox and wife Janice of Fremont, Iowa; son, Donald L. Fox of Wayland, Iowa; daughter, Carol Fox and partner Denise Davis of Iowa City; son, Russell Fox and wife Karen of Riverside, Iowa; Iowa; nine grandchildren: Tim Fox, Kevin Fox, Shari Baggett, Angela Fox, Jeff Fox, Carri Fox Rummelhart, Justin Fox, Cullen Kron, and Keely Fox; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother Kenneth Kron and wife Toni of Guntersville, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1999, one son, Larry Fox in 2005, one sister, Vivian Woodley, and one brother, Elmer Kron.
