Theodore "Ted" Russell Woods, age 85, of Washington, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Washington County Hospital following a brief illness.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Calling hours will begin 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening. Interment with military honors will take place at Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. A general memorial has been established. Ted was born April 20, 1930 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Maureen (Benn) Woods. He graduated from Washington High School and attended school in New York City to study to be a linotype operator. Ted was united in marriage to Maridee Orris on September 1, 1954 at the United Presbyterian Church in Ainsworth, Iowa.

Ted honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Washington Journal for 35 years and was a custodian for the Washington Community School District for 11 years. He was also a self-employed machinist. Ted was involved in the Community Theater during the 60's and 70's. He was an Elder and Deacon for the Ainsworth Presbyterian Church and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington. Ted sang in the church choir for over 40 years. He enjoyed astronomy, electronics, outdoor sports and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Maridee Woods of Washington, IA; son, Russell Woods of Washington, IA; son, Chris Woods and wife Carmen of Washington, IA; son, Jerry Woods of Mediapolis, IA; and three grandchildren: Spencer, Colton and McKenna Woods.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Rodney Woods, Allen Woods, Johnny Woods, Lois Scott and Barbara Woods.
