Susan Spencer, age 59, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at her home in Washington surrounded by her family.
Celebration of life services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 14th at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 13th at the United Presbyterian Church where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Friday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for youth programs at the United Presbyterian Church or a scholarship fund in memory of Sue. Sue was born November 7, 1955, in Corning, Iowa, the daughter of Robert G. and Elsie (Brown) Huber. She graduated from Washington High School and from Iowa State University with a Bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's degree in Special Education. Sue was united in marriage to Dale Spencer on August 11, 1979 at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington.
Sue was a reading teacher for Washington Community Schools for 18 years until health forced her retirement in 2013. She was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Local and International Mission Team, helping with over 20 mission trips. She was an Elder, High School Youth Leader and Sunday School Teacher. Sue served as the treasurer for the Washington Community Theater and was the past president and treasurer of the Washington Education Association where she was on the negotiations team for 20 years. Sue was an active member of PEO, Chapter OC.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Spencer of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Beth Horsford and husband Mike of Aurora, Colorado; son, Stuart Spencer and wife Erin of Johnston, Iowa; son, Nick Spencer of Davenport, Iowa; son, Boniface Mkini of Ames, Iowa; triplet grandsons: A.J., Ben and Caleb Spencer; and brother, Steve Huber and wife Jennie of Bellingham, Washington.
Sue was preceded in death by her mother in 2012 and her father in 2014.
