Obituary

Susan Joann Hazelett, age 78, of Ainsworth, IA, died peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2020, at Halcyon House in Washington.

Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Interment will be held at Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth. A general memorial has been established. Susan was born July 14, 1942 in Washington, IA the daughter of Russel Kennedy "Joe" and Gwendolyn Elizabeth (Arthur) Jones. She graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1960 and was united in marriage to John David Hazelett at Cotter Presbyterian Church on October 28, 1967.

Susan worked in bookkeeping jobs at Old Brick in Iowa City, First Miss. in Ainsworth and then started helping husband John with his trucking and hog buying business. Not only did she do bookwork and secretarial work for John, but she was known to jump in a straight truck and help bring in hogs off the farm if needed. In 1995, she took a job as a clerk at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where she worked until her retirement in 2010.

Susan was a member of Cotter Presbyterian Church where she played the organ for many years and also was a member of the Cotter Guild. She played the piano for Ainsworth Community Church's Christmas programs and Sunday School. She enjoyed spending time doing yard work, crossword puzzles, visiting with family and friends and summer vacations with family. Most of all, she was overjoyed with having five grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She always loved having them over to her house and she made it a point to attend their activities. Susan was a selfless person and was well known for putting others needs over her own.

She will be missed by her husband, John of Ainsworth, sons: Jared (Amanda) Hazelett of Cedar Rapids, Joel (Angela) Hazelett of Ainsworth, and Jon (Kelly) Hazelett of Riverside; brother, Craig (Judy) Jones of West Liberty, sisters-in-law: Maria (Ken) Hazen of Marshalltown and Marcia (Dan) Boyer of Santa Barbara, CA; and grandchildren: Halle, Bryce, Brena, Olivia and Brant.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, Hugh and Pauline Hazelett; brother, Terry Jones and brother-in- law, Hugh Daniel "Dan" Hazelett.
