Steven W. "Steamer" West, age 67, of West Chester, Iowa, died Friday, January 31, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a brief illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Visitation will begin noon Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 Monday evening. Interment will take place at a later date. Steve was born August 13, 1946, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Margaret (Dill) West. He attended school in West Chester and graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1965. Steve was united in marriage to Nancy Warden on June 26, 1970 in Kahoka, Missouri.
Steve was a life resident of West Chester, Iowa. He was in the trucking business for 51 years. He got his start with West Truck Line Inc., and later worked at Pohren Trucking, Wilson Concrete, JWV Trucking, and was most recently employed at Knupp Farms. Steve enjoyed driving around the countryside enjoying the views, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy West of West Chester, Iowa; son Bret West and wife Ronda of Wayland, Iowa; daughter, Jodi Latcham and husband Robert of Washington, Iowa; and four grandchildren: Austin and Alex Latcham; and Natalie and Nicholas West. Steve is also survived by three brothers, Larry "Pokey" West and wife Linda of West Chester, Iowa; Tom West and wife Rhonda of Springdale, Arkansas; Rob "Reuben" West and wife Rhonda of Washington, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
