Steven Ralph Stanton, age 61, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals after failing in health.
In celebration of Steve's life, the family will receive friends at Marr Park from noon until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18th. The family invites friends to bring a dish to pass and join them for a picnic at noon. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Steve was born September 1, 1952, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Robert LeRoy and Dorothy Florence (Knowler) Stanton. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Dorothy and Robert "Turk" Conaway. He attended school in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Steve was married to Rhonda Sue Bodkins for the past 38 years.
Steve entered the United States Marine Corps in 1972 and served until 1975. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
He is survived by his step-son, Clint Bodkins and wife Tina, Colfax, Iowa; step-daughter, Ronette Wagner and husband Adam of Washington, Iowa; brother, Bob Stanton of Missouri; sister, Sherry Stewart of Wapello, Iowa; brother, Glen Stanton of Muscatine, Iowa; sister, Kay Conaway-Fifield and husband Clint of Muscatine, Iowa; brother, Jack Conaway and friend Yvonne Ramsey of Conesville, Iowa; and sister, Dee Macias and husband Joe of Texas.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Conaway; step-father, Robert "Turk" Conaway; father, Robert Stanton; wife, Rhonda Sue Bodkins; and brother, Mark Conaway. ;
