Steven John "Steve" Delaney, age 73, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Iowa City, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in Washington.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at the Old St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Paws and More Animal Shelter. Online condolences may be sent for Steve's family at www.jonesfh.com

Steve was born July 13, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Leo Frances and Dorothy Marie (Hebl) Delaney. He graduated from high school in 1969. Steve was raised in Iowa City and lived there for most of his life. He was united in marriage to Mary Foster on June 13, 1981, in Iowa City. Steve and Mary moved to Washington in 1994.

Steve worked for Johnson County for 22 years until his retirement in 2011. He volunteered and was a driver for Paws and More for over twenty years. When driving for Paws and More, he picked up donated food and transported animals to their new homes. He and Mary did Welsh Corgi rescue in their home and adopted senior cats and dogs. While living in Iowa City, Steve was a member of the University of Iowa Friends of Old Time Music for over twenty years. He enjoyed playing guitar and mandolin and helping others to learn.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Delaney of Washington, Iowa; and brother Gary Delaney of Nashville, Tennessee; and his beloved cat, Thomas.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Michael Benjamin Delaney.
