Sherman Chance, age 81, of Washington, passed away Monday, November 2, 2015 at Pearl Valley Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Washington, following a short battle with cancer.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2015, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent for Sherman's family through the web at

Sherman was born February 3, 1934, in Washington, Iowa, the son of William and Lena (Townsely) Chance. He was educated in Washington. Sherman worked for Perdock Auto and later for the City of Washington working at Elm Grove Cemetery and City Park. He was a member of the Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington.
Sherman enjoyed visiting with friends, going for walks, handing out peppermint candy, and going to McDonalds for coffee.
He is survived by four sisters: Molly Young of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Betty White of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Mary Burns and husband Donald of Salem, Iowa; and Ruth Tusing of Jacksonville, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Kenneth and Junior Chance; and one sister, Martha.
