Sergio G. Gonzalez, age 62, of Crawfordsville, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 28, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after being seriously ill for the past three weeks.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Father Bernie Weir officiating. Interment will take place at Cemetery of Atotonilco Nieves Zazatecas in Mexico, at a later date. A general memorial has been established. Sergio was born February 8, 1960 in Atotonilco Nieves Zazatecas, Mexico, the son of Jose Vital and Amelia Gonzalez. Sergio was united in marriage to Evelyn Graves on July 6, 1984, in Columbus Junction, Iowa.
Sergio moved to Washington, Iowa in 1978. He worked for Brian Coleman Construction for many years. Sergio was a member of the Catholic church. He enjoyed collecting coins and antiques, watching WWE, and going to the casino. Sergio especially enjoyed spending time with his family and socializing with friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Sanchez of Williamsburg, IA; daughter, Trina Sandhagen of Marengo, IA; six grandchildren: Colton, Selena, Luis, Jovanny, Megan, and Sherra; great-granddaughter, Emma; sister, Maria Gonzalez and husband Margarito Luna of Mexico; sister, Martina Gonzalez and husband Luis Gallardo of Perryton, TX; sister-in-law, Antonia Castaneda; several nieces and nephews; and former wife and close friend, Evelyn Bonnichsen of Marengo, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arnold Castaneda; and sister Josefina Gonzalez.
