Scott Lee Rich, age 60, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at his residence under hospice care following a year long battle with cancer.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Scott was born May 13, 1959 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Ronald and Sandra (Matz) Rich. He graduated from Washington High School in 1977. He furthered his education and was a member of the baseball team at Indian Hills Community College in Centerville, Iowa for two years and at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa for two years. Scott was the Conference MVP both years while at William Penn. He played in a summer baseball league in Manitoba, Canada and was invited to the Kansas City Royals tryouts during the 1980's. He was united in marriage to Janet Roth on August 25, 1984 in Washington, Iowa.
Scott was a lifelong resident of Washington. He worked as a Sales Professional for Home Depot. He was a former member of the Washington Community YMCA and was a member of Washington Golf and Country Club. Scott enjoyed golfing, pheasant hunting, scenic road trips, and traveling, especially to Hawaii. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He loved attending, coaching and watching his children and grandchildren's activities.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Rich of Washington, IA; daughter, Kelsey Liska and husband Mike of Washington, IA; daughter, Kassandra "Kassey" Rich of Los Angeles, CA; son, Kaleb Rich and wife Stephanie of Rockford, IL; three grandchildren: Makenyn, Krew and Kysen; parents, Ron and Sandy Rich of Washington, IA; brother, Brett Rich and wife Sue of Washington, IA; brother, Matt Rich and wife Mary Jo of Washington, IA; three sisters-in-law: Christy Ballard of Washington, IA; Cathy O'Hanlon of Roatan, Honduras; and Julie Ormsby and husband Bob of Indianola, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother-in-law, Margaret Roth; and aunt, Sandra Jane Rich.
