Scott was born on August 10, 1960, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Donald E. and Ina Marie (Earnest) Holmes. He graduated from Washington High School in 1978.
Scott grew up on a farm south of Washington. He held several jobs throughout his life but he was especially proud of his custom baling business. He loved all of the boys who helped him bale. Scott was a social person and loved to visit! He spent lots of time hanging out at the Wayland BP and he enjoyed talking to everyone who came in. His favorite places in the world were the Washington County Fair and Old Threshers.
He was a member of the Eicher Mennonite Church where he served many years on the Cemetery Board. He was active in the Washington County Cattleman’s Association, was a 4-H leader for eight years, and was a member of the Wayland Antique Tractor Club.
He is survived by his cousins: Dale (Virginia) Holmes, Illa Earnest, Betty Earnest, Carol Elvin, Ruth Heck, and Esther Smedley and second cousins: Pat (Vince) Smith, Carol (Jarrod) Horning, and Bev Holmes.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents and cousins, Kathy Earnest, Mary Gordon and John Ferguson Jr.
A special thank you to Parkview Home and Hospice Compassus for the loving care they provided for Scott.
