Sara Ann Kinzler, age 73, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the Brownlee Health Center of the United Presbyterian Home. She is now with God in heaven.
Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Visitation will begin 9:00 a.m. Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Sara was born on July 23, 1939 in Ottumwa, Iowa the daughter of Joe and Agnes Ferguson. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and then completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
After graduation, Sara taught Kindergarten for one year in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On August 18, 1962, she was united in marriage to Al Kinzler in Ottumwa, Iowa. She began her teaching career in Washington, Iowa, first for the public schools and later for St. James Parochial School where she taught for over twenty years.
Sara thoroughly enjoyed reading and listening to music, talking with her friends and being as active physically as possible. She enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. Sara was a charter member and the first President of the local American Association of University Women Chapter. (A.A.U.W.) She always had a great desire to write books for children, but this dream never came true.
She is survived by her husband, Al Kinzler of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Anne Claes and husband John of Johnston, Iowa; son, Scott Kinzler, of Marion, Iowa; one granddaughter; and one brother, Joe Ferguson and wife Toni of Ottumwa, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew.
