Sandy Walling, age 70, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at her residence under hospice care.

Private family services will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. A general memorial has been established. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent for Sandy's family at www.jonesfh.com

Sandy was born April 3, 1955, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Merle W. and Phyllis (Mowday) Shelman. Sandy attended school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1973. She was united in marriage to John E. Walling and later enjoyed the company of her life partner, Denny Smith.

Sandy lived most of her adult life in Brighton, Iowa, before moving back to Washington. She was the Floor Manager at Waste Management for 17 years and recently worked at Unc and Neph's in Washington. She enjoyed gardening, bowling and spending time with her beloved cat, Casey.

She is survived by her son, John "Jay" Walling Jr. of Washington, Iowa; granddaughter, Destynii Walling and husband Tyler Faupel of West Chester, Iowa; grandsons: John Walling III of West Chester, Iowa, Jayson Walling of Washington, Iowa, Koben Stone of Washington, Iowa, Kyle Walling of Washington, Iowa; granddaughter, Hollins Kerby of Washington, Iowa; and great grandchildren, Audrina, Arabella, and Tyson Faupel.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Cathy Mowday and Debbie Gardner; and brother, Merl "Bo" Shelman.
