Obituary

Samuel Jesse Curtis, age 60, of Morristown, AZ, formerly of Washington, IA, died Sunday, May 25, 2014 after a lengthy illness.

Sam was born April 27, 1954, in Washington, IA, the son of Donald and Shirley (Bowser) Curtis. He was united in marriage to Phyliss on October 4, 1993 in Reno, NV. He worked for McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory and for the Veteran's Affairs hospital in Iowa City, prior to his move to Nevada and later to Arizona.

Sam served honorably in the United States Army from 1972 until 1978. He enjoyed rock hunting, gold prospecting and fishing and trapping. He was an avid Arizona Cardinals fan and scrabble player. He also enjoyed being around his family and friends.

He is survived by wife, Phyliss Curtis of Morristown, AZ; daughter, Jenny Curtis of New London, IA; daughter, Emily Beckler of Kalona, IA; son, Ben Curtis of Washington, IA; step-daughter, Paula Farris McConnell of Washington, IA; step-son, Gary Chris Farris of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; mother, Shirley Curtis of Apache Junction, AZ; sister, Shirley Kay Campbell of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Nancy Cheek and husband Jeff of Scottsdale, AZ; brother, James Curtis and wife Bethany of Washington, IA: and many nieces and nephews.

Samuel was preceded in death by his father, Donald, in 2012, his aunts, Helen Curtis, Mickey Curtis, Jesse Curtis and Roslyn McFadden and his uncle, Dale Curtis.
