Aaron "Sam" Junior Batterson, age 88, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at his home.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2015 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Calling hours will begin 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will take place at the Cambrian Cemetery in rural Columbus Junction, Iowa. Sam was born June 24, 1927 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Aaron and Alpha M. (York) Batterson. He attended school in Washington and after his junior year, joined the Army Air Force. Sam was united in marriage to Frances Jane Owens on January 10, 1957 at Cotter.
Sam worked at the Curran Company for 27 years and for the McCleery Cumming Company for 23 years. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, sports and woodworking. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. Sam coached a Cubs softball team in Washington for many years in the later 40's and early 50's. He also coached little league baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Batterson of Washington, IA; son, Steven Batterson of Davenport, IA; son, Jeffery Batterson and wife Christine of Washington, IA; one granddaughter, Samantha Batterson of Cedar Falls, IA; brother, H. Dean Batterson of Washington, IA; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Les Brecht; sister, Wanda Wilson; and four brothers: Elmer, James, Donald and Dale Batterson.
