Obituary

Ruth M. Zieglowsky, 88, of Wayland was welcomed into heaven on Sunday August 29, 2010 at the Parkview Home in Wayland following a brief decline in health.

Celebration of life services will be 11:00 am Wednesday September 1, 2010 at the Wayland Mennonite Church in Wayland with Pastor Kelly Slagle and Pastor Pam Unruh officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Tuesday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Interment will take place 10:00 am Wednesday at the Eicher Cemetery in rural Wayland. Memorial contributions will be donated to charities. Ruth was born on February 15, 1922 in Havre, Iowa the daughter of Samuel and Fern (May) Baker. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1940. Ruth was united in marriage to Carl D. Zieglowsky on October 25, 1940 at the Eicher Parsonage near Wayland, Iowa. In her younger years she worked at Wittrig's General Store and at Jarrard's Feed and Grain as a bookkeeper for a few years. She was a homemaker and helped her husband in the family farming operation. Ruth enjoyed working outdoors, raising chickens and gardening. She enjoyed fishing, camping, crafts, and wood fiber flowers. She especially enjoyed being able to teach her grandchildren how to camp and the appreciation for the outdoors. She will be remembered for her wonderful desserts.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Carla Leichty and husband Royce of Mt. Pleasant; son, Ron Zieglowsky and wife Laura of Monmouth, Illinois; four grandchildren, Mathew Leichty; Jamie Wallace; Megan Hanley; and Claire Zieglowsky; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Everett Baker of Richland; Donald Baker and wife Alice of Hedrick; three brothers-in-law, Harold Dickinson of Birmingham; William Freyenberger of Wayland; Ted Zieglowsky and wife Donna of Boston, Massachusetts; and two sisters-in-law, Martha Witthoft and husband Ralph of Washington; and Mary Baker of Lady Luck, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1993; two sisters, Bessie Schlatter; Juanita Dickinson; one brother, Earnest Baker; and one great grandson, Luke.
