Ruth Evelyn Hall, age 88, of Iowa City, died Friday, May 18, 2012, at her residence following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Shiloh Church in Kalona with services conducted by Rev. Ron Shelton, Rev. Erin Dunn and Rev. Don Gaudreau. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Shiloh Church. Interment will take place at Shiloh Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Shiloh Cemetery Fund. Ruth was born September 5, 1923, in Sac City, Iowa the daughter of Floyd and Ida Bell (Baker) Carpenter. She attended school in Sac City and Lone Tree, Iowa, and graduated from Columbus Junction High School. She was united in marriage to Harold Taylor Hall on December 31, 1943, in Kirksville, Missouri.
Ruth and Harold farmed south of Columbus Junction, then moved east of Crawfordsville, Iowa, prior to moving to Washington in 1967. Ruth was a homemaker and worked at the United Presbyterian Home. In 2002 she moved to Kalona, Iowa, and has resided in Iowa City since 2011.
She was a member of Shiloh Church in Kalona, Iowa, where she was involved in many activities. She enjoyed sewing, was an avid reader and loved to write, especially poetry. Ruth loved her family and grandchildren and her great grandchildren were the focus of her life.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Patty O'Connor of Iowa City, Iowa; son Terry Hall and wife Ann of Fox Lake, Illinois; daughter Nancy Curtis of North Liberty, Iowa; son Loren Hall and wife Theresa of Washington, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold in 2001, one great grandson, four brothers, Raymond, Carl, Earl and Wayne Carpenter as well as two sisters, Doris and Marion Sturgeon and one half sister, Ruby.
