Obituary

Roy Leonard Williams, age 89, of Washington, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the Halcyon House in Washington.

The family will honor his life in a reunion this coming spring. He will be laid to rest at the Fairview Cemetery in Denmark, Iowa

Roy was born on a farm in Denmark, Iowa on August 23, 1927. He was one of 10 children of Irven and Bertha (Eoff) Williams. All 5 boys went to Denmark High School where they played on the same basketball team. They all graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant.

Roy never married and lived in Marion, Iowa while working at Rockwell Collins until his retirement. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged with a medal for good conduct, because that was just who Roy was.

Roy spent the last 8 ½ years at the Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa to be close to his niece, Lorraine Williams. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed all sports. Roy helped Lorraine understand baseball and shared his love for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Lorraine, who cared for him, will always remember him accidentally telling the doctor she was his daughter.

Roy was the last of the family of 10. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Florence Williams, Rebecca Tucker, Elsie Crabtree, Edna Williams, Helen Wood; and brothers: Glen Williams, Frank Williams, Kenneth Williams, and Jack Williams.

For those who would like to remember Roy with a memorial gift, please give it to the Hospice of Washington County. He loved their tender loving care!
