Rosemary A. Reed, age 65, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Des Moines, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the University of Iowa from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Washington, with Pastor Colton Clay officiating. Calling hours will begin at noon on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. Rosemary was born October 19, 1948, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard J. and Lola M. (Hartman) Reed. She graduated from Washington High School in 1967. Rosemary worked for, and was a member of New Life Center in Des Moines where she cooked for the staff and was a youth group leader involved in youth drama productions. She ran a homeless shelter for many years and assisted refugees from Afghanistan. Rosemary moved back to Washington in June 2011. She volunteered at Washington County Hospice and worked in the Dietary Department at Washington County Hospital.
Rosemary enjoyed spending time with friends, reading, animals and movies. She loved traveling and going on cruises. She cherished the time she spent with her nieces and nephews.
Rosemary is survived by brother, Roger Reed and wife Connie of Washington, Iowa; brother, David Reed of Washington, Iowa; sister, Bernice Marie Darby and husband Charles of Ainsworth, Iowa; sister, Melinda Lord and husband Bill of Washington, Iowa; brother, Nicholas J. Reed and wife Sue of Washington, Iowa; as well as seven nieces and nephews, two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her father in 2000 and her mother in 2010.
