Ronnie L. “Ron” Rich, age 89, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the United Presbyterian Home.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with interment at Eicher Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Hospice of Washington County. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to Ron’s family at www.jonesfh.com.

Ron was born on November 11, 1936, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Irvan and Doris (Mawry) Rich. Ron graduated from Washington High School in 1954 and attended Indian Hills Community College where he received his degree in Criminal Justice. He was united in marriage to Sandra Jean Matz on September 5, 1958. Ron served honorably in the United States Army from 1958 until 1962 where he was stationed in Hawaii. Following his time in the service, Ron attended the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

Ron worked for the Washington Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department for many years. He lastly worked for the University of Iowa in Campus Security until his retirement.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling, eating and playing cards. Ron especially enjoyed spending time at Boshart’s cabin at Lake Odessa and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Brett (Sue) Rich of Washington, Iowa; son, Matt (Maryjo) Rich of Washington, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Janet Rich of Washington, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Kelsey, Kassey, Kaleb, Trevor, Hannah, Morgan, Mason and Makenna; and 11 great grandchildren: Makenyn, Krew, Kysen, Ada, Abram, Paisley, Jentry, Granger, Oliver, Nora and Brewer.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra in 2022; son, Scott Rich in 2020; and sister, Sandra Jane Rich in 2015.
