Obituary

Ronald Raymond Davis, age 85, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 7, 2020 at the Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.

Celebration of life services and interment will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established for the Harlan Community School District Helping Hands Fund. Ron was born June 7, 1935 in Harlan, Iowa, the son of Raymond Oliver and Theresa Edna (Schnack) Davis. Following high school, he graduated from the American Institute of Business. Ron served honorably in the United States Army Reserves and was united in marriage to Lila June Nelson on June 11, 1955 in Shelby, Iowa.

Ron was raised on a farm near Avoca, Iowa and resided for a short time in Carroll, Iowa until moving to Harlan where he worked as an Assistant Administrator and Financial Officer at Myrtue Memorial Hospital. He retired in 1998 and spent several years in Sun City West, Arizona until moving to Washington, Iowa in 2017.

Ron served on the Harlan Community School Board for many years. He operated the score clock for boys basketball for 32 years and was a part of the football chain crew for 26 years. Ron was a member of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending Iowa boys basketball state tournaments and Iowa State football games.

He is survived by his wife, Lila June Davis of Washington, IA; son, Craig A. Davis and wife Jane Noble Davis of Washington, IA; daughter, Coleen R. Watson and husband Michael of Sterling, AK; grandchildren: Thomas Davis and wife Grace Marengo Sanchez of San Antonio, TX; Maria Davis Hochstedler and husband Reggie of Coralville, IA; Kristin Davis Pierce and husband Bryce of Perry, IA; Jacob Watson of State College, PA; and Delaney Watson of Rohnert Park, CA; great-granddaughter: Esther Davis of San Antonio, TX; brother, Richard Davis and wife Sandy of Sun City West, AZ; sister-in-law, Sharon Nelson of Shelby, IA; and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Ivan Nelson.
