Obituary

Ronald Eugene "Ron" Bennett, age 62, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, June 01, 2014, at his residence in Washington following a battle with cancer.

Celebration of life services will held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Washington with Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Visitation will begin noon Tuesday at the First Baptist Church where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County, the Salvation Army or the First Baptist Church Summer Youth Camp Fund. Ron was born January 7, 1952, in Alton, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Dotson) Bennett. He attended school in Washington, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Linda Richards on June 12, 1969, in Washington, Iowa.

Ron lived most of his life in Washington, Iowa. He worked at Sellers Insurance for twenty years and was later employed at First Baptist Church, Washington County Public Health and was a Washington County Supervisor until his retirement in 2013. He previously managed the Washington Golf and Country Club for four years and owned and operated Benny's Bar for four years. Ron enjoyed bowling, playing cards and playing pool.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Bennett of Washington, Iowa; son Rob Bennett and wife Michele of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Tari Haile of Fairfield, Iowa; six grandchildren: Katlyn Bennett, A.J. Pegg, Robert Bennett, Garrit Haile, Gannon Haile and Carrigan Haile; brother, Jim Bennett and wife Joy of Washington, Iowa; brother, Rich Bennett and wife Kay of Washington, Iowa; sister, Barb Ryner and husband Bob of Marshalltown, Iowa; and sister, Christine Lincoln of Des Moines, Iowa.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Lisa Jones.
