Roger Dale Stout, age 79, of Washington, died Friday, July 22, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, following a battle with cancer.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Washington with Pastor Colton Clay officiating. Inurnment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the First Christian Church and the Sonshine Ministry. Roger was born February 2, 1937 in Crawfordsville, Iowa, the son of Miles and Beatrice (Kephart) Stout. He attended Jackson Township rural school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1955. Roger attended Iowa State University and was also a member of the Iowa National Guard. He was united in marriage to Patricia Stewart on April 30, 1960 in Washington, Iowa.

Roger was a lifelong farmer in Washington County. He was a faithful member of the First Christian Church. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau. Roger's hobbies centered around work. He enjoyed field tiling, sawing wood and cracking black walnuts. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially riding the 4-wheeler, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Stout of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Shelley Schrack and husband Dion of Grinnell, Iowa; son, Lael Stout and wife Penny of Washington, Iowa; son, Gary Stout and wife Jana of Washington, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mary Stout of Washington, Iowa; sister, Wanda Robertson and husband Karl of Iowa City, Iowa; brother, Dennis Stout and wife Linda of Ainsworth, Iowa; and sister, Janice Pescetto and husband C.F. of Kansas City, Missouri.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Barry Stout.
