With sadness, the family of Roberta (Bert) Lampkin announces her passing on Wednesday September 16, 2026 at her home in The United Presbyterian Home at Washington after a short illness. She was 97 years old.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Bert on Wednesday September 23, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. in the Moore Dining Hall of the United Presbyterian Home. The family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home and from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.on Wednesday at the Moore Dining Hall of the U.P. Home. A private family interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Roberta Jean Henke was born on May 15, 1929 in Keokuk, IA to Kenneth C. Henke, Sr. and Bessie L. Kean. Bert was the youngest of five children born to Kenneth and Bessie Henke. She graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1947.

On March 18, 1949, Bert was united in Marriage to Neal Richard Lampkin in Keokuk, IA. They remained happily married for over 63 years until his passing in late 2012. Four children were born into their family, Larry, Rick, Jeff and Ann.

Neal and Bert moved their family to Washington on August 18, 1962. She has been a happy Washington resident for over 64 years.

Bert was a 64-year member of the United Methodist Church in Washington. She was active in the church where she volunteered making candles for the altar and serving as the Wedding Coordinator for dozens and dozens of weddings over many decades. Bert was also a member of the teaching staff at Washington Junior High School for many years. As Study Hall Supervisor, she got to know nearly every student in the school and she loved the lifelong friendships she made with those students. She has remained in touch with many of her students over the years and is lovingly referred to as “Mrs. Lampkin”.

Bert taught Red Cross Swimming Lessons in Washington over many years. She and Neal were active in the YMCA and Washington Municipal Swim Team programs during the years the Lampkin kids were active. Bert volunteered to spearhead the Community Chest in Washington for many years and she was active in numerous other Community Clubs and endeavors.

Bert and Neal enjoyed traveling and made trips all over North America, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Europe. She loved to reminisce about their adventures. Bert loved animals of all kinds and she always went out of her way to help a critter in need.

Bert is survived by their son Jeff and his wife Renae, of Pleasant Hill, IA, their daughter Ann and her husband Jim Williams, of Washington, their son Rick and his wife Jane, of Fort Myers, FL, her daughter-in-law, Rachel Lampkin, of Gardnerville, NV and Special Nephew and Niece, Jim and Debby Sturm of Albia, IA. Bert also leaves behind 25 Grandchildren (including spouses) along with 24 Great-Grandchildren (including spouses). Other nieces and nephews survive her as well. Along with her family, Bert leaves hundreds of wonderful friends she made over her lifetime. She was blessed.

Bert was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Neal (in 2012), her son, Larry (in 2024), a granddaughter, Lindsay (in 1982), one brother and three sisters.

A special “Thank-you” to the staff at the United Presbyterian Home and Hospice of Washington County for their tireless efforts to make Bert’s life the best it could possibly be. She always made sure to tell us about the great care she was getting. Bert was quick to also recognize Andrew from the UP Home’s Spiritual Staff for meeting with her regularly when she could no longer attend church services.

Memorials in Bert’s name may be made to the “Neal R. and Roberta J. Lampkin Scholarship Charitable Trust”. This Scholarship Trust provides an annual scholarship to help further the education of a local Washington High School graduating Senior.
