Robert Thomas "Tom" Stirling, age 78, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Parkview Nursing Home in Wellman, Iowa.

Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Columbus City Cemetery with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery immediately following services. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Tom was born February 29, 1944, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Robert James and Wanda Maxine (Willey) Stirling. He grew up on a farm south of Columbus Junction and graduated from Columbus Community High School in 1963. Tom was united in marriage to Judith Kaye Swanson on May 14, 1966, in Galesburg, Illinois.

Tom lived most of his life in the Columbus Junction area before moving to Washington in 2011. He worked for the Natural Gas Pipeline for thirty years and later worked at the University of Iowa where he was the head of valet parking and the greeters. He was a veteran of the Iowa Army Reserves and was an active member of Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He served on the Columbus City Cemetery Board of over twenty years. Tom enjoyed doing yard work and taking scenic drives with his wife.

He is survived by two sons: Douglas Stirling of Brooklyn, New York, and David Stirling of Columbus Junction, Iowa.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judy, in 2015.
