Robert George "Bob" Huber, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the United Presbyterian Home following a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Visitation will begin noon Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery. Bob was born August 13, 1926, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Arthur Jacob and Margaret (Hall) Huber. He graduated from East Moline High School in 1944 and later graduated from Iowa State University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He was united in marriage to Elsie Brown on October 21, 1950.
Bob worked as a Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor. He worked as a construction contractor for his father's business for one year before starting his career as a County Engineer working in Red Oak, Iowa, Corning, Iowa and Washington, Iowa. Bob was the County Engineer in Washington from 1960 until his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and served as Vice Chairman of the building committee during construction of the church in 1971. He served on the Board of Directors at the United Presbyterian Home since 1968 and was Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee during many construction projects. He served on the Board at the Washington Community Y during many expansion projects and was a charter member of the Washington Community Center serving as Chairman of the Building Committee during construction of the Community Theater. Bob was a member of Washington Masonic Lodge #26, served on the Lake Darling Youth Center Board, was a member of the American Legion Post # 117 in Corning, Iowa, V.F.W., and was a life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Iowa Land Surveyors and the National Association of County Engineers. He was on the Iowa State University Alumni Board and the Iowa Concrete Paving Association Board.
Bob is survived by his son, Steve Huber and wife Jennie of Bellingham, Washington; daughter, Susan Spencer and husband Dale of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren; triplet grandsons; and one brother, Pete Huber and wife Bonnie of Hampton, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Elsie Huber; and one brother, Bill Huber and his wife Jane.
