Robert H. "Bob" Applegate, age 73, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa following a two year illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will begin 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Sunday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Bob was born March 25, 1940 in Washington, Iowa the son of Howard and Anita (Havel) Applegate. He attended South Prairie Country School and graduated from Washington High School in 1958. Bob was united in marriage to Bonnie Fox on February 22, 1975 in Riverside, Iowa.
Bob was a lifelong resident of Washington, Iowa. He farmed all of his life in Washington County and custom harvested since 1971. He raised cattle and sheep and enjoyed going to cattle and sheep sales. He raised Registered Angus Cattle, and was a member of the Washington County Cattlemen and the Washington County Lamb and Wool producers. He enjoyed going to Farm Progress Shows and the Iowa State Fair. He was a Farm Bureau member. Bob played the accordion at the McCreedy Home, the Care Center, and the County Home. He loved his dogs Sam and JoJo and also enjoyed deer hunting.
He is survived by wife Bonnie Applegate of Washington, Iowa; sister Shirley Applegate of Washington, Iowa; brother Larry Applegate and wife Sue of Ainsworth, Iowa; one nephew, Lee Applegate; three nieces: Lori Eddings, Yvonne Boone, and Jeanette Wasson; three great-nephews; and one great-niece.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister Elizabeth "Betty" Carr.
