Obituary

Richard L. Weeks, age 87, of Washington died Wednesday January 6, 2010 at Washington County Hospital following a sudden illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday January 10, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bob Wollenberg and Rev. Don Hodson officiating. Visitation will begin 11:00 am Saturday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 pm Saturday. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established to Washington Community Y for Youth Scholarships or Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund. Dick was born on April 30, 1922 in Washington, Iowa to Dewey and Mabel (Larson) Weeks. He graduated from Washington High School in 1940. Dick was united in marriage to Lillian Geraldine Crone on June 27, 1948 in Washington. He enjoyed playing Bridge and pinochle and golfing with friends. Throughout his life, Dick enjoyed traveling to exotic places. He was an avid sports fan and followed the Minnesota Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals, and Detroit Tigers.

Dick was a life long resident of Washington. Dick has been the owner and President of Sitler Electric Supply Inc since 1977. He was the CEO and President of the National Bank of Washington for 29 years, from 1946 - 1975, and the CEO and President of Hawkeye Bank for one year. He was on the Board of Directors of Federation Bank since 1978 and the Board of Directors of Washington Bancorp since its inception. He was also the Chair of the YMCA Endowment Fund and was the Chair of Washington Community Center Endowment Fund. Dick also served on the Washington Industrial Board for 38 years, Wesley Retirement Homes Board in Des Moines for 12 years, and the Washington Community Y Board for 12 years. He was a member of Noon Kiwanis, Washington Community Y, Washington Golf and Country Club, and Hancher Circle at University of Iowa.

He is survived by his wife Geri of Washington; daughter, Lana Weeks of Carmel By the Sea, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters: Samuel Weeks, Vernon Weeks, Anna Marie Eckroth, Mary Lee Moore, Carol Jones, Fran Nardy, and Kate Orris.
