Richard Wayne Flint, age 67, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at his home in Columbus Junction, Iowa after a three-year illness.
Celebration of life services with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa. Pastor Chester Grogan and Pastor Roberta Eichelberger will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Richard was born May 1, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the son of John Henry and Clovia (Ruley) Flint. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam from May 1967 until August 1970. Richard was a maintenance worker and welder at Monsanto in Muscatine, Iowa for 34 ½ years. He was united in marriage to Catherine Louise Seiler on March 5, 1975 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Richard was a member of the Melon City Bike Club and rode in RAGBRAI events. He loved walking, biking and dirt track stock car racing, but most of all he loved his family, grandchildren and friends. Richard was honest, loyal, hardworking, and loved his family dearly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine; daughter, Susan Roth; daughter, Sandra Smith (Jack Robertson); daughter, Paula (Brett) Colbert; son, Darin (Lynn) Smith; son, Nathan (April) Smith; grandchildren, Dezirae (Justin) Fairchild, Krystal Johnson (Justin Hammon), Angel Smith (Michael Daniel), Jonah (Allison) Smith, Tiffanee (Travis) Davis, Benjamin and Connor Shellabarger, Nicholas, Christian, Zachary and Joshua Smith, Andy, Abby and Adam Kerr and Ryan, Emma and Katelyn Smith; great-grandchildren, Evan Montagna, Madisen, Ty and Miranda Davis, Savannah, Mollee and Kinnick Russell, Peyton and Mason Johnson, Kailey Neil, Mila and Zohee Hammon, Autumn Daniel and Noah Smith; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Crystal Hopp, Dorothy Stone and Patricia Corey; brothers, Johnny and James Flint, mother-in-law and father-in-law, James and Mary Seiler and Effel (Betty) Coonce.
