Richard D. "Dick" Donaldson, age 70, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 26th at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, October 30th at the Jones Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Friday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Marr Park Conservation Center. Dick was born April 24, 1940 in Washington, Iowa the son of Warren Richard and Myra Lucille (Harvey) Donaldson. He attended various schools in Washington County, graduating from Ainsworth High School in 1958. On February 3, 1963, Dick was united in marriage to Judy Lowe in Ainsworth, Iowa. Dick served in the Washington National Guard from 1958-1964.
Dick was a life resident of Washington County. He worked for Marshall Furniture Company as a floor covering installer for 43 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Ainsworth Community Church. He enjoyed woodworking, hiking, fishing, camping and canoeing.
He is survived by his wife Judy Donaldson of Washington, Iowa; son David Donaldson and wife Christine of Chandler, Arizona; son Brian Donaldson and wife Sue of Wellman, Iowa; six grandchildren, Brandon Strope and wife Amanda, Blake Strope, Tanner Donaldson, Tessa Donaldson, Jesi Donaldson, and Jacob Donaldson; brother Dennis L. Donaldson and wife Mary of Ottumwa, Iowa; sister Linda Kempf and husband Marlin of Iowa City, Iowa; sister Carol Galbraith and husband Joe of Iowa City, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1983, mother in 1972 and one brother William in 2008.
