Dr. Richard M. Cressey passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 2017. He was an emergency and internal medicine physician at Lawrence General Hospital, Lawrence, MA.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorial services will be conducted at South Church in Andover, MA on January 13, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the Dr. Richard M. Cressey Memorial Fund has been established at Lawrence General Hospital for medical equipment to be used in the Emergency Department. Dr. Cressey was born on November 29, 1944 in Hinsdale, IL and grew up in Downers Grove, IL and Naperville, IL. After high school, he earned degrees at Baldwin Wallace College, University of Toledo, and Medical College of Ohio, now University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. He came to Massachusetts for internship and residencies at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Salem. Dr. Cressey was a leader in professional organizations and kept current in his medical specialties, especially critical care. He was known as a doctor who had true love for his patients and medicine. He shared his love and wisdom with all who knew him; he will be greatly missed.

A humble man, he was a life-long learner, enjoying libraries, museums, trips to visit family across the country, ballroom dancing, big-name artist concerts, and short visits to Nantucket.

He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Cressey Raber and her husband Richard of Wheaton, IL, nieces Suanne Raber Koster (Ryan) of Aspen, CO and Renee Raber Albritton (Robert) of Chicago, IL, and great nephews Anderson Remeny Koster and Marcus Dean Albritton.

Dr. Cressey was preceded in death by his mother Sarah Moore Cressey in 1956, his mother Helen Alcorn Cressey in 1993, and his father Ralph Ewell Cressey in 1997.
