Raymond Franz Landau, age 96, of Washington died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Halcyon House following a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Visitation will begin 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church for maintenance of the Church Cross or a memorial of the donor's choice. Raymond was born December 9, 1914 on the family farm north of Washington the son of Franz Christian and Anna (Barkhous) Landau. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1934. Raymond was united in marriage to Grace Lillian Hall on August 14, 1941 in Nashua, Iowa. Raymond moved to the family farm in March of 1935 where he farmed most of his life. He and Grace moved to Washington in 1985 and later moved to Halcyon House in the early 1990's. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their activities. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending the Iowa State Fair and Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant.
Raymond is survived by his sister, Gertrude Jones of Washington; grandson, Larry L. Fishback and wife Brenda of Washington; grandson, Nathan E. Fishback and wife Rachel of Washington; granddaughter, Ashli Turner and husband Trey of Seattle, Washington; seven great grandchildren; one niece, Jean Gratton of Dallas, Texas; three nephews, Bill Caldwell of Long Beach, California; William McKinney of Janesville, Wisconsin; and Louie Jones of Scottsdale, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2005; daughter, Mary Ellen Fishback in 1976; one brother, Carl Landau; six sisters, Frances Landau; Alma Caldwell; Marie Landau; Edna McKinney; Minnie Quasdorf; and Mabel Landau; and his son-in-law, Larry J. Fishback.
