Obituary

Ray W. "Friday" Musgrove, age 95, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, February 1, 2015, at his residence in Washington following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Kelly Allard officiating. Military honors will be accorded following the funeral service at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Visitation will begin 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. Ray was born October 6, 1919, in Wanlock, Iowa, the son of Philip Ames and Dollie Vita (Reeser) Musgrove. Ray attended school in Washington, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Marguerite M. Shafer on April 2, 1939, in Washington, Iowa. Ray served honorably as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars, the Victory Medal and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

Ray worked for the City of Washington in the Sanitation Department for many years. He previously worked at Hayes Quarry, Perdock Motors, Stewart and Crone Automotive, Northrup King and had his own Auto Salvage Business.

As a young child, Ray attended the Christian Tabernacle and sang in the church choir. He enjoyed being outside and loved to mow his yard. He loved going to McDonalds, camping, animals and the humor of young children. He was an avid collector and was proud of his bicycle collection. Ray loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Ray is survived by six daughters, Anita Lister of Washington, Iowa; Connie Tresslar of North Liberty, Iowa; Diana Kaufman and husband Kenny of Wayland, Iowa; Pam Brackin and fiancé Bryan Crooks of Washington, Iowa; Cherie Musgrove and partner Mike Beenblossom of Washington, Iowa; Crystal Herbert and partner Hank Tusing of Keota, Iowa; brother, Jim Musgrove and wife Cindy of Cheyanne, Wyoming; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Ray was preceded by his parents; his wife in 2008; son-in-law, Jarold Lister; four sisters, Charlene Cooper, Vivian Helfrich, Irene Musgrove and Alberta Musgrove; as well as one brother, Ralph Musgrove.
