Ramona M. Byerly, age 84, of Washington, Iowa formerly of Ainsworth, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Ainsworth Community Church with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Visitation will begin 3:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Friday Evening. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Ainsworth Community Church Women or the United Presbyterian Home. Ramona was born April 3, 1929, in Mediapolis, Iowa, the daughter of John Henry and Evelyn Deloris (Lyons) Mehaffy. She grew up in Burlington, Iowa and graduated from Burlington High School. Ramona was united in marriage to Dale Albert Byerly on January 14, 1949 in Burlington, Iowa.
Ramona has resided at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington since February of 2013. She lived all of her married life in the Ainsworth Community where she assisted her husband in the family farm operation. She was an active member of the Ainsworth Community Church. She enjoyed working with her hands doing crafts, painting, sewing, and crocheting. Ramona also enjoyed baking and cooking. She loved spending time outdoors and took great pleasure in mowing her yard and doing yard work.
She is survived by daughter, Karen Crossett and husband Robert of Washington, Iowa; son, Alan Byerly and wife Sue of Washington, Iowa; daughter Marsha Thompson and husband Brad of Yarmouth, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Byerly of Ainsworth, Iowa; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Ramona is also survived by her sister, Donna Hobbs of Burlington, Iowa; brother, Kenneth Mehaffy and wife Jeanette of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and sister, Joyce Davis and husband Marvin of West Burlington, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2010; one son, Keith in 2012; and one great granddaughter, Tatum Ashcraft.
