Obituary

Rae Lee Waack, age 65, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the All American Restorative Care Center in Washington following a lengthy decline in health.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Visitation will begin noon Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening. Rae Lee was born September 3, 1947 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of David Raymond and Ruth Francene (McGraw) Lewis. She attended school in Columbus Junction, Iowa graduating from Columbus Junction High School. Rae Lee attended the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, Iowa and received her Liberal Arts Degree from Kirkwood Community College in 1966.

She was employed by Shell Oil Company in Bettendorf, Iowa; the United States Armament Command Headquarters at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois; Bordwell Law Office in Washington, Iowa; and worked as a matron for Washington County Law Enforcement helping transport female prisoners. Rae Lee was last employed by the Iowa Department of Human Services retiring in 2010.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington, Iowa; a former member of the Quad City Sweet Adelines; and was honored twice with the Governor's Volunteer Award. She served on the Washington County Magistrate Appointing Commission for many years. She enjoyed reading, attending auctions, playing cards, visiting with friends and her main focus was spending time with her grandchildren and following their many activities.

She is survived by daughter Lisa Doerres and fiancé Mike Halstead of Roseburg, Oregon; three grandchildren: Carson, Carter, and Claire Doerres; brother Don Lewis and wife Sheryl of Washington, Iowa; and sister Eileen Wilson of Stuart, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant sister, Mary Catherine Lewis.
