R. Louise (Harten) Hall Chandler, age 93, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, January 10, 2015, at her residence at Halcyon House.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015, at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Visitation will begin 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2015, at the Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson, Iowa. Ruth Louise Harten was born February 9, 1921, in Beaver, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary Madie (Hummel) Harten. She graduated from high school in 1939 in Grand Junction, Iowa. Louise was united in marriage to Carl Marion Hall on May 28, 1939 in the family home. They were the parents of two sons, Neal Marion Hall and Roger Lee Hall. Over the years, the family lived in various locations, but settled, for the most part, in Washington, Iowa. Marion passed away in 1988. Louise married James Wilbur Chandler on August 24, 1996. Wilbur died in 1999.
Louise was employed at various places over the years. In 1964, Louise and her husband, Marion and son Neal, started Hall's Feed Service in Washington, Iowa. She was the bookkeeper there until the business closed in 1985. Although Louise was retired, she enjoyed her part time cashier job at Winga's Café in Washington.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington, Iowa, where she was active in the United Methodist Women. Louise was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary and Fortnightly Club. She loved to play cards and belonged to both bridge and pinochle clubs. Louise was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
She is survived by her son, Neal Hall and wife Donita of Sparks, Nevada; grandson, Craig Hall and wife Natalia of Reno, Nevada; granddaughter, Susan Baldwin and husband Jim of Sparks, Nevada; granddaughter, Julie Glaspie of Washington, Iowa; granddaughter, Amy Congelo and husband Mark of Reno, Nevada; eight great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Roger Lee Hall; brothers, Paul Harten, Harold Harten; sisters, Dorothy Young, Betty Mally; and a special niece, Judy Mally Lint.
