Phyllis Jean Svatos, age 57, of Lancaster, California, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 following a sudden illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Calling hours will begin 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Phyllis was born October 28, 1955 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond Paul Sr. and Mary Joyce (Hepner) Svatos. Phyllis has resided in Lancaster, California since 1997.
She enjoyed bowling, jewelry, and coloring. Phyllis participated in the Special Olympics for many years.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Svatos of Fairbanks, Alaska; sister, Linda Downs and husband Robert of Mojave, California; brother, Joseph Svatos and wife Vicki of Swannanoa, North Carolina; brother, David Svatos and wife Peggy of Des Moines, Iowa; brother, Raymond Svatos Jr. and wife Donna of Ainsworth, Iowa; sister, Helen Critchfield and husband David of Fairbanks, Alaska; and sister, Sandra Bussey of Lancaster, California.

She was preceded in death by her father in 2008, one brother, Paul in 1978, infant sister Vicki in 1955, and several aunts and uncles.
